"Grands As Parents" Support Group

Grandparents Raising Grandkids

More grandparents than ever are learning to be parents all over again. In fact, 1 in 12 children are living in households headed by grandparents or other relatives. In the latest Census (2000), McKean County had 535 households with children from birth-17 with grandparents acting as caregivers. That's nearly 10% of all households in the county with children under 18 years of age. In a 2007 Pennsylvania report, 80,423 grandparents reported being responsible for their grandchildren living with them.1

Bringing young children into a new household can create extra stress and bring on new difficulties. This new trend is why the McKean County Family Centers are offering "Grands As Parents".
