In many ways, the difficulties parents face raising children in McKean County are

matter where someone lives, their child has likely had a temper tantrum
It has often been said that parenting is the hardest job in the world. Raising two to
eight year olds is no exception. Trying to balance discipline with affection, teaching
them to be respectful, and promoting independence while keeping them safe are just a few

Not only is parenting a difficult job, but it is also thought to be the job with the least
amount of training, which is one reason why the McKean County Family Centers offer The
Incredible Years for parents of 2-8 year olds in the county.
The program runs once a week for seven weeks, with each session lasting for an hour and a
half. During the program, parents work on learning effective use of play, using praise
and reward, setting clear limits, and handling misbehavior. Childcare is provided by
Family Center Staff.
