Parents As Teachers (PAT for short) is for parents with children ages birth
to five. The program involves home visits led by trained Family Developmental Specialists.
These one hour, twice a month visits focus on sharing age-appropriate child development and
parenting information. A typical visit usually includes an age-specific activity for
the child, allowing for parent-child interaction. Linked to the activity, a handout is
given to parents explaining why the activity is important in their child’s development.
Other important elements of PAT include child screenings and
parent-child playgroups; both programs of the Centers.
