Prevalence Rates of drug use and behavior of students in McKean County through three
PAYS surveys ('00, '03, '05).
Every two years; the 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th
graders in McKean County are given the chance to take the PAYS (Pennsylvania
Youth Survey) survey.  This survey measures student's behavior, attitudes and knowledge
concerning alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and violence.  The survey also measures risk and
protective factors that are associated with the behavior, attitudes and knowledge.
The McKean County Family Centers have been involved with helping to distribute the
PAYS survey to schools since 1998. Once the survey results come back, the Center staff
also plays an integral part in helping the community understand what the results mean.
